Textures and quilting

Spring in Texas is wildflower time - and it's usually a spectacular display of colors from the blues and greens of bluebonnets to the pinks and bright oranges and reds of the myriad other brilliant Texas flowers. Alas, this year, due to lack of rain I suppose, the wildflowers south of Austin TX are virtually non-existent.

So as not to make our yearly wildflower-looking trip a lost day, we wound up in a town called Yoakum TX and had lunch at a real down home Texas cafe, with BBQ and donuts all made in one place. While the food was very filling and delicious, it was the textures of the old wooden building that attracted me and made me yearn for a way to translate the natural aged colors and textures of the wooden steps and siding into some sort of quilting, be it into a top or into an actual quiting pattern that I'd get my talented sister in put onto a quilting with our longarm machine.

Do odd things inspire you too?
